My second day at sorbonne went okay! Afterwards, I worked on homework and took a break to go play bocce with some of the students and the hot french guy that works at CEA. Here they call bocce "petanque." We had a great time and I headed back home to finish up homework.
I really can't wait to be done with my classes so I have more interesting things to relay to you.
Yesterday was uneventful as well. The metro broke down when I was on my way from my French class to phonetics. Essentially I was 15 minutes late to a 1 hour class. Flustered, I did horribly the whole class.
Back at Disney, the brazilians and Venezuelans aren't held to the highest regard to say the least. They are really obnoxious as far as we Americans think, but here, they are so much better. In fact, my only two friends are Venezuelans. Plus the delicious Italian.
The sun wasn't out yesterday so I was kind of depressed and napped as soon as I got home. I got the chance to skype with my roommate in Orlando. I miss her a lot. And just Orlando in general. It is really depressing to know that Paris is the last thing before I go home to Memphis.
It is a great city, don't get me wrong. I just have a full course load and a very stressful semester ahead of me.
The sun finally came out around 3, so I decided to go for my first Parisian run. I walked to the park the hot french guy told me to run at (to make sure I didn't get lost, but I did anyway and somehow ended up there regardless). Montsouris Parc is huge! Staying around the outside path it is nearly a mile around it. I ran it twice before running out to head home. About half of it is flat and the other half is very VERY steep to accommodate the metro that runs through it under what I assume is a man made hill. Considering my knees aren't used to hills at all from my Orlando running I figured a good 2 laps was satisfactory. By the time I got back to my street I wasn't tired so I decided to run through this small, but still relatively big considering the urban setting, park call Rene de Gall. It was my first run in a week and I didn't tire, but I had things to do so I decided not to push it. I am going to get back into routine tomorrow with 5 miles.
Maybe.
Ha!
My new roommate and I had dinner at a local cafe, although we tried to eat at the local creperie (such great food and awesome crepes), but it is closed for the month of August. Damn french.
I spent the evening doing more homework.
Really exciting, I know.
Today I simply went to school and relaxed after. I wish I had brought all the books I had brought to Orlando and never read this summer with me. I figured if I didn't have time in Orlando to read them, then I certainly wouldn't have time here. But the French have so much alone time, and so have I. I notice a lot of people go to cafe's alone and just sit. Often they won't even read. They sit and reflect. They walk most places or take the metro. Also a quiet and lonely experience. Even if they go somewhere as a group, they are relatively quiet amongst their peers. Exceptions being at some of the local "places" (pronounced plas). Place du Monge, the Bastille area, and Rue Mouffetard are all pretty happening. Even there, they aren't doing crazy stupid stuff. When we Americans get drunk in groups we do stupid things for humor. They really only talk and laugh louder. And that is notable.
It has been really nice to slow down this much. With another book nearly done in a week, it looks like I will be going back to Shakespeare and Company soon for another one.
Tonight I am heading off to see "Tree Of Life." I hope it isn't dubbed and only has subtitles! I have been wanting to see it so bad, but couldn't find anyone in the states to see it with, alas I come to Paris and 3 other Americans are dying to go, one for the second time.
Much love!
